A Sunday in My Life: February 21st, 2021

I wanted to challenge myself and capture my entire day in a blog post. I always love seeing and hearing about what other people are doing in their every day lives and I thought some people may enjoy reading how I spent my Sunday. Writing this forced me to slow down throughout my day and reflect on each activity as it happened. I hope you enjoy reading what I did on this Sunday as a senior in college.

Inspired by Margot Lee.

7:15 AM- It's very bright outside so I wake up without my alarm today. I don't feel tired, but I don't feel like getting out bed. I grab my water bottle, take a couple of big swigs, and then settle back under my covers to read a few chapters from Uncomfortable Conversations with A Black Man by Emmanuel Acho.

7:45 AM- I know I have a lot to do today, like most Sundays. The thought of my long to-do list finally pulls me out of bed. I head into the kitchen and turn on my water heater for my morning cup of tea. In the mornings, I love drinking Trader Joe's Spiced Chai tea with a splash of oat milk.

8:00 AM- I head back into my room and start my morning journaling routine using The Five Minute Journal (I'll link my full journaling routine video here).

8:30 AM- I host my "sober/sober-curious" virtual Zoom meetings on Sunday mornings at 10am, so I use this time to send out any last minute Zoom links for people who may have recently signed up.

9:00 AM- I'm in the kitchen cleaning my tea mug when my roommate comes in from her morning walk. I catch a glimpse of how beautiful it is outside when she opens the door. I decide to go on a morning walk of my own before my meeting. I put in headphones and start listening to the most recent episode of the Mood with Lauren Elizabeth podcast. I am OVER THE MOON when I hear my own name come up at the beginning of the episode! Lauren talks about how she attended my sober-curious meeting the night before. For the rest of my walk, I have a little extra pep in my step.

9:40 AM- I make myself a quick bowl of oatmeal topped with almond butter and mini frozen blueberries (my favorite combo...I actually eat this every day). As I'm eating, I chat with my roommate and offer her words of encouragement. She's about to take the LSAT at 11:20am.

10:00 AM- I sign into my virtual Zoom meeting and we chat for an hour. I love hosting these meetings and building connections with like-minded people my age and I always leave feeling refreshed and energized. I'll leave a link to sign up for these meetings here.

11:30 AM- I decide to get started on some homework. Today, I watch a documentary on The Salsa Revolution for my Music of Latin America class and write a review on it. Online school is getting real old real fast but the thought of graduation in 4 months keeps me feeling motivated.

1:45 PM- I finish my last assignment for the day just as my stomach starts to rumble. I go into the kitchen and make my favorite lunch: avocado toast (basic, I know). I'm sad to discover I don't have any vegan cream cheese left, but I enjoy the toast anyways.

2:15 PM- I try on a few pieces of clothing I ordered from Revolve the other day. I like 4 of the items and decide to return 2 of them.

3:00 PM- I decide to plan a couple of Instagram posts for the week. Usually when I'm planning my posts and captions, I focus on things I have experienced lately in my sobriety or topics that were brought up in our weekly virtual meetings.

4:00 PM- I've been sitting in my house all day so I decide to go on another walk. I have loved going on walks since COVID hit, and I'm sure many of you have as well. Walking relaxes me and allows for some easy movement on an otherwise stationary day. On this particular walk, I head out to the cow pasture on my school's campus (I go to a big agriculture school) and recorded some voice memos of my current thoughts and feelings.

5:00 PM- On Sunday nights, I attend RPG's Super Sober Soul Sunday virtual meetings (RPG is a sober group I'm apart of-I'll link the website here). Tonight, we talked about how important it is to set boundaries with your friends and family who may be acting a little less-than-supportive of your sobriety.

6:00 PM- After my RPG meeting, I went straight into another virtual meeting, but this time on FaceTime. I am in a Psychology of Aging class this quarter and for one of my projects, I need to interview an older adult about their life. All my grandparents have passed away, so I chose to interview my boyfriend's stepmom's brother's wife's dad. Yeah, I know...quite the connection. We had a great conversation and scheduled another time to talk again and ask follow up questions!

7:30 PM- I'm not feeling super hungry tonight for dinner, probably because I didn't work out today. I go into the kitchen anyways to see what I can whip up.

8:00 PM- I decide to make chickpea pasta with pesto and broccoli...another one of my favorite dishes. As I'm eating this, our neighbors come over to play Uno. This has been our new "thing" for the past few weeks. It's very fun. There tends to be a lot of collusion and plotting, so one game easily takes hours.

10:15 PM- Sure enough the game took about an hour and a half. I am so tired. I wash my face and brush my teeth in my bathroom, then head into my bedroom to do my nighttime journaling routine.

10:30 PM- As soon as I'm done typing this, I'm going to put on my pajamas crawl in bed to read. I know I'll only last about a page or two before I pass out. My alarm is set for 7:00am.
